About this ski

Black Crows are the Chamonix-based freeski maker. For a freeski, this (relatively) narrow, hard snow-oriented Divus is a bit of an outlier. At 82 mm underfoot, the Divus is the narrowest non-touring ski the company makes nowadays. With a full wood core and sidewall and especially the H-shaped layers of metal, the ski has all the potential attributes to be a top performer on groomed runs.

Actually, it’s not that construction that is so special in itself. The H-shape of the titanal layers are not even that unique. Shaped layers of materials are also used by brands like Dynastar, K2, Völkl, Salomon, etc. It is the combination of the construction and flex, the radius, and the rocker profile that make this ski a very successful all condition groomer ski.

Jack of all trades, master of all

I think the Divus is the most all-round piste-oriented ski one can buy at the moment. In all conditions (from refroze pistes to at least 15 cm of soft snow, in bumps), at all speeds and for a vast range of skier abilities and styles this ski scores at least a 7 (out of 10) in all areas. Grippy but playful, stable yet lightfooted, smeary yet dependable – this is a lesser-known ski for 90% of recreational skiers out there.

Granted: it is not a racy ski with tonnes of rebound or a carve-only mentality. It also is not a floating device for bottomless powder. Those extremes are not what this ski is built for. The Divus is a very pleasant, easy to ski, stable platform for big and small skiers, fast and slow, lazy or active. Just don’t look for a specialist ski, and you won’t be disappointed.

In conclusion

Maybe the most all-around and well-rounded on-piste skis of the moment. Just not for racers, powder chasers or skiers that love ‘technical’ skiing. Is is a great recreantional ski. One of the best for on-piste.
