About this ski

The Dynastar Speed Course Master GS is the ‘Master’ GS ski in the series. This means (in the case of Dynastar and Rossignol Hero Master LT – exactly the same ski, just different top sheets) a denser wood core and thicker metal than the ‘consumer’ or ‘cheater’ GS skis, but a touch wider and a considerable tighter radius than FIS competition skis. In short: the best of both worlds.

Super stability combined with sublime edge grip and precision in long, high-speed turns is what this Master GS brings. It is much more compliant than actual FIS skis, though. They too bring the grip, speed, and stability, obviously. But their long radius (23-35 m depending on the FIS classification) calls for much more extreme edge angles to reach the same results. For mere mortals with no racing background, that is very hard to achieve.

Smooth, strong, stable

The denser core, thicker metal, and race plate do set this ski apart from ‘regular’ consumer GS skis (Rossignol Hero Elite LT, Fischer RC4 Worldcup RC, Völkl Racetiger GS, et cetera). It gives this ski an edge in terms of performance and stability. A bit harder to handle if conditions are not ideal for these kinds of skis (i.e. in softer snow, skied-out runs, bumps). The slightly wider footprint and the deep damp smoothness – the ‘Laufruhe’ – make up big time for that, though.

The Speed Course Master GS excels at high speeds and in big carving turns. But it is surprisingly versatile when you get your balance right and are able to find the small but oh-so-sweet spot of this ridiculously high-performance ski. So much so, that it even can be low-performance. And that’s the ultimate sign of versatility in this class of skis.

In conclusion

A very high-end big turn carver that loves to ski fast. But versatile enough to be an everyday hard snow ski under the feet of an accomplished skier. There is also the same ski without the R22 race plate, but with the Konect binding interface instead (Speed Course Master GS Konect) – just dialed-down a notch, but not quite ‘consumer’ level.
