About this ski

Just like the rest of the World Cup Rebels skis, the e.GSR has been updated and is now equipped with EMC. EMC stands for Energy Management Circuit and – much like its predecessor KERS – is there to minimize vibrations in the ski. In the e.GSR, however, they used EMC “F”. The F stand for Front. So they used it just in the front half of the ski.

The e.GSR holds the same spot in the World Cup Rebels lineup as previous versions. It’s the softest, lightest, least demanding of the series, but with a bigger, Giant Slalom-inspired radius. So you would expect an easy-to-manage long(er) radius piste ski.

EMC? EMT!

Looking for stability? Don’t ski it. Looking for grip and consistency? Don’t take the e.GSR. After a few turns, I had not experienced any of the EMC magic. Instead, pure fear had made my heart race so badly, calling for the EMT would have been more appropriate.

The old version was rather nice, stable, predictable, and easy to maneuver. This new version is all over the place, and lacks all sense of direction. They basically ruined a fine ski, in my opinion. This is a great example of an older version being so much better than the replacing new model.

Conclusion

This is as bad as diluted, dumbed-down ‘race’ skis get. I emphasized ‘race’, because I think on the e.GSR the only place you’ll race to is the garbage can.

  1. What would be a better alternative for this ski? With a similar dimensions (68-70 mm) and radius (14-15 m at 170 cm length), a ski that is a bit softer and less demanding, for a first ski to own (after 5 years of skiing experience).

  2. I just skied this model in Solden last weekend and absolutely loved it and don’t recognise any of your findings.
Easy to control on slow speeds (skidding) but accelerates when speeding up. When carving on GS turns it’s very stable and has rock-solid grip. Even in a small layer of powder with some bumps they performed surprisingly well.

I don’t know what the conditions were when you’ve skied this model. Maybe they were not tuned correctly (detuning front/end).

For me a perfect ski to ski together with your family but on the other hand also go full speed and feel like a racer.

Of course it’s everyones personel feeling but did want to share this with you 🙂

  3. Yesterday I skied the shorter model, 170cm, I will really feel better and more comfortable if I had my flip flops on, rather these new e.gsr. The ski has it’s own idea of direction, no matter short turn, long turn, carve or giant slalom. I have sore lower back, so one thing is true, no vibrations felt at all.
