About this ski

Salomon has changed their Rush and Shot race skis for next season. The line is a bit easier to understand now. This S/Race GS 12 is the highest-end consumer version, just below that is the GS 10. If you want a bit more power, you can go up as well. The S/Race GS Pro has a race plate and a bit heavier construction.

Speaking of construction, this S/Race GS 12 is quite straightforward in that regard. Full wood core, two sheets of metal, full sidewalls, full camber. The only ‘fancy’ technology is their Blade technology. It’s that strip on top of the top sheet in front of and just behind the binding. It helps prevent counter-flexing and absorbing vibrations.

Precise

This ski is a nice surprise in the simple fact that it does exactly what you would expect from a consumer GS ski. It’s not overly stiff – like the old Rush – nor is it a flimsy rental ski disguised as a racer. It is a predictable, powerful, precise long-turn carving machine. The grip is magnificent (but not grabby – you can skid turns too on this one), and the power is endless under the feet of any recreational skier.

The more you put in (technique, edge angle, power, speed), the more it gives. The rebound is aiding in edge-to-edge action, but not punishing or sharp. Sure, this ski likes to carve more than it skids. But if your balance is right, it does some ‘wedeling’ too.

In conclusion

A boringly predictable consumer GS ski. Meaning: you get what you expect. The skiing is not boring at all. It is great for technical skiers who like precision, power, and speed.
