About this ski
The Rustlers have been Blizzard’s freeride line for quite some time now. For the 2023-2024 season, they changed them all up. This 9 is still the narrowest in the series, and the overall application remains the same too. However the construction and dimensions have been updated, and it does make a noticeable difference.
The ski has gotten a few mm wider than its predecessor. Also, the metal reinforcements now run the entire length of the ski (instead of up to where the – quite long – rocker portion of the ski starts, as was the case in the outgoing version). And that has altered the feel of the ski somewhat. In a good way.
Stable and playful
The more homogenous metal distribution in the ski makes its flex more even over the entire length. And that makes the ski more predictable and more confidence-inspiring. Especially in heavy loose snow or bumps, the old version could surprise negatively by being a bit skittish or, just the next second, by catching the underfoot metal and toughening up when you didn’t expect it. The more consistent feel really ramps up confidence on this new Rustler 9.
On groomers, it’s a bit slower to get on edge (the increased width will do that), but the consistent metal makes for better edge hold throughout the turn, and a bit more power overall. Still, this is not actually a piste ski. But in mixed conditions or if you can bring only one ski for ice on the first day and a big snowstorm on the next (and the subsequent bumps and crud) this ski should be on your short-list.
Conclusion
For skiers who want a playful yet stable ski that can handle all snow conditions but excels whenever conditions cannot be defined – this may be it.

Really curious about this one.
I bought the previous rustler 9 based on your review a few years ago and still love it! Super easy to ski basically anywhere on the mountain. I love that it is snappy and poppy.
Would you recommend an upgrade?
Nu need to upgrade. The previous version was a 9/10, the new one is a 9.5/10 in this category.
